Louise and Will Friend Owners of East Northdown Plant Nursery

Both Nurseries offer visitors the chance to browse around our gardens and grounds with our two exceptional complimentary botanical collections of plants.

Each area has a very different climate, we propagate at both from plants at each that have been proven to do well and suited to local conditions.

We are therefore able to offer a uniquely comprehensive range of plants for growing conditions across the U.K. from our two sites, to nursery visitors or by prior order.

East Northdown:

At our East Northdown Nursery, we specialise in plants for our mild ‘Mediterranean’ conditions but that can cope with the problems of growing in chalky, coastal conditions. We are always happy to give advice and help select plants for a particular situation.

East Northdown Business Centre has provided premises for  local small businesses, community groups, charities of all types for 30 years, serving the local community in the tranquil garden and farmyard settings, in the Northdown Conservation area. Further buildings are being converted into new premises and are being upgraded to individuals requirements as required, – can we help you?.

Mucklestone:

Mucklestone Nurseries in Staffordshire specialises in Woodland and Meadow plants. i.e. a complimentary range of those trees, shrubs and perennials better suited to the cooler, wetter, more acidic conditions prevalent in the north and west of Britain.

Mucklestone Business Centre, also provides premises for local small businesses. As well as the Main yard , Beasley Barns and Cemetery Barns are in wonderful settings of rolling species rich parkland and lakes.

Our Roots:

William’s roots extend far into the past at both farms, the ‘Friends, Tomlins, Sacketts and Taddys’ at East Northdown, and William’s maternal family, the Hinchliffe, Crewe, and Offley families, in Mucklestone.

For details of local history see our East Northdown & Mucklestone Historical Blogs, or contact us if we can help you trace your roots.

Each combined nursery, farm and business centre, continues to serves as a hub of local community life, offering affordable premises and facilities for scores of local businesses, groups and charities , whilst enhancing the farm, garden and parkland character, the natural biodiversity , and the genebank of garden plants species. of each site. William gives talks in both areas on a range of topics , such as ‘Mediterranean plants for the Kent Coast’.
